Children ‘Felt’ Visit Was Great Success Two classes from Our Lady and St Anselm’s Primary School are experts in recycling following an educational visit to a Whitworth company. The children were given a guided tour of Anglo Felt Industries, just down the road from their school.
Children of Our Lady and St Anselm’s School visit Anglo Felt Managing Director Simon Macaulay told them how raw materials are used, from the jute fibre recycled from reprocessed sacking and the acrylic/wool from unwanted Oxfam clothes. He also explained that cashmere hair, once washed and scoured, from the guard hair of the cashmere goat was used, as well as repulled denim jeans and carpet threads, which would otherwise go to landfill. Commercial Director June Lonsdale said: “The children also had a go on the ‘snuffleufaguss’, which they always love. It sucks fibres from the bins into the machines. They were fascinated to watch the large looms working and visited the blending department. They also found it exciting to wear earphones, needed because it can be quite noisy in the factory.” Mrs Lonsdale added: “It was lovely to see the children as they were all local. Some of their parents or grandparents have worked here, which they reminded me of.”
The visit rounded off a Go Green project at the school. |
